LEGAL
Every letter cites the rules airlines cannot ignore.
EU261/2004
Up to €600 for delays of 3h+, cancellations and denied boarding.
UK261
Up to £520 — the retained UK version of EU261.
Israel Tibi Law (5772-2012)
₪1,390–₪3,340 for 8h+ delays and cancellations.
Sturgeon (C-402/07)
CJEU: a 3h+ arrival delay is compensated like a cancellation.
Folkerts (C-11/11)
Missed connection: what counts is your final arrival. A 20-min first-leg delay that leaves you 3h+ late = full compensation.
Huzar v Jet2 [2014] EWCA Civ 791
UK Court of Appeal: routine technical faults are NOT extraordinary circumstances.
Under EU261 and UK261 the amount is fixed by distance: €250 for flights up to 1,500 km, €400 for 1,500–3,500 km, and €600 for over 3,500 km — when you arrive 3+ hours late. Under Israel's Aviation Services Law (Tibi Law), an 8+ hour delay or cancellation pays a fixed 1,390–3,340 ₪ depending on distance, with no need to prove damage.
Any flight departing from an EU/EEA airport (on any airline), and any flight arriving in the EU/EEA operated by an EU/EEA carrier. UK261 mirrors these rules for UK departures and UK carriers. Israel's law covers flights departing from or arriving in Israel.
It depends on the country: up to 3 years in most EU states (e.g. Germany), 6 years in the UK, and 4 years in Israel. The sooner you file, the better — airlines must respond within weeks, and evidence is easier to gather early.
Extraordinary circumstances (severe weather, air-traffic-control strikes) can exempt the airline from compensation — but not from care: meals, hotel and rebooking are still owed. Airline staff strikes are usually NOT extraordinary, so compensation still applies.
Yes. If a delayed first flight made you miss a connection on the same booking and you arrived 3+ hours late at the final destination, full compensation applies. Denied boarding due to overbooking entitles you to immediate compensation with no delay required.
Traditional claims agencies keep 35–44% of your compensation (€210–300 on a €600 claim). Here you pay a one-time $9.99 and keep 100% — you get the ready legal letter plus the airline's direct claim link, claims email and head-office address.
